Your friends love you. As long as you stay the same

Some relationships will handle that calmly. Others need a new way of staying close. Some will end, and that can genuinely hurt. But I don't want to preserve closeness by paying with an obligation to stay the same. Especially the same unhappy person. If remaining friends requires me to hate my life again, these are very expensive drinks.
