Self-improvement as a way to do nothing
Try buying the next course after you've used what the previous one taught you. Introduce the next system to solve a problem you've actually encountered. Choose the next book because the work has raised a question, not because you're scared to get back to it. And give yourself permission to do it badly. At the beginning, that's not an unfortunate exception. It's a pretty likely outcome. You can know a lot and still not be able to do much. Skill usually requires its own humiliating introduction to practice.
