Do you want justice, or do you want someone else to suffer?

Envy doesn't have to make you a monster. Someone else's success can remind you of what you lack. What you haven't lived, chosen, or been able to access. Seeing something you've wanted for years nearby can hurt. But you can admit: I want that, and it feels unpleasant that they have it and I don't. Or you can immediately declare them morally suspect. That's more convenient. You no longer need to examine your desire. You can discuss their shortcomings on behalf of wounded humanity.
