Do you want justice, or do you want someone else to suffer?

Sometimes someone else's success helps you notice your own desire. Sometimes you discover you don't want what they have at all. You just want confirmation that you're no worse than they are. Here's the bad news: their failure won't build you anything in return. It won't put money in your account, freedom in your schedule, or warmth in your relationships. For a few minutes, it'll just make looking around easier. That's an expensive moral system if its entire output is a brief sense of relief that somebody else feels like shit too.
