An apology without change is permission to do it again
This applies to you too. If you understand everything, try not to make your understanding the main event in someone else's pain. Don't make them comfort you because now you feel ashamed. Fix what you can. Return it. Finish it. Give notice. Accept the refusal. Investigate why the promise failed another encounter with reality. And don't declare yourself a good person at the end of the conversation. That's not the question that needs answering right now. I'd like an apology to be the last one because you no longer have to apologize for the same fucking thing, rather than because you were beautifully forgiven.
